T-DAY
t o d a y i s
world typewriter day
The online screening of my new short film Art in Typospheria, originally scheduled for today, is postponed. Apologies. I'll keep you posted. Meantime, let's re-view our typewriter vids from 2011 here.
T-Day cheers, typospherians!

I dream lo-tech in a post entitled Typecasting in the Typosphere. The post picked up on a Salon.com article on the typewriter renaissance (which features some familiar names) and re-posted my last typecast on Olivetti Lettera 25 and one of my photos.
I'm grateful.
And thrilled!

Happy World Typewriter Day and congratulations on being mentioned in the Salon article and being reposted on Boing Boing. Your blog is always beautifully written and your images always artful, so you deserve the recognition.
It's really great to see the Olivetti bringing pleasure to people in Hyde Park. The Mac box, which by happy coincidence fits the typewriter, turns out to be the perfect camouflage for a weapon of the Insurgency. It must give you an element of surprise when you pull the machine out for public typing.
I hope you'll fill us in, eventually, on the back story: are these friends of yours? Strangers invited to use the typewriter? Anyway, good job, soldier.
I agree. Your pics are great. And the Macbook box is clever! Very cool!
@Dana, many thanks for your kind words and for all the positive energy you bring to my blog. Blogging about typewriters and things lo-tech is just endless fun and pleasure for me. I know for a fact that mid2mod is sheer enjoyment for you as well.
@Richard, I'm really glad you packaged the Lettera 25 in that Macbook box. It's the perfect camouflage indeed! The folks you see in the pics are Hyde Park regulars I know. There are back stories, one of which is that they haven't seen, let alone used, a typewriter for years. I got a kick watching them fumble with the paper, look for the non-existent "return" key, panic over typos, etc. Another back story is the attention we got from people. I was pleasantly surprised when an 8-10 year old kid screamed, "Look dad, it's a typewriter!" His dad answered, "That's cool!" Another lady in her 60s saw the Macbook box and said, "so do you like the Macbook?" She was delighted when I opened the box, "I haven's seen one of those in decades!" Finally, there's the back story of the oohs and aahs the cool and stylish Lettera 25 got everywhere, both for its looks and feel. I think it's one of the reasons why Boing Boing took note of my post. This just confirms what I've always thought that it is an underrated Bellini. Oh, the guy by the lake is now a typewriter convert. I'm happily giving him his first typewriter and he just might join the typosphere. What am I giving him? Clue: it will be like getting a Benz for your first car. ( :
@streamlinesdeluxe, thanks, welcome here! No worries about the multiple posts. Gone!
Is that Lake Michgan the convert is typing nearby or am I messing up my little geographic knowledge of the US? Looks very nice! Awesome idea - and congratulations on the feature!
I would have loved to have seen those people's faces when they opened that box and discovered the machine inside! So very clever...
A happy Typewriter Day to you, good sir. Thank you for spreading the insurgency!
That Mac box is super. It is good to see the Olivetti typewriters being used.
Oh I love it! That's great!
@Florian, hey, thanks! Yep, you get an "A" for U.S. Geography, that is Lake Michigan.

What a beautiful entry! I really love the pictures, the little typecasts, and the role the good Olivetti played in all this!! Hope you had a very nice T-day... by the looks of it, you did. XD
Epic post! What a great idea, and thanks for sharing the result. I really enjoyed looking through the beautiful pictures and seeing all those happy faces typing away. And all on a humble Lettera 25 - you are single-handedly changing my opinion of that machine!
