Meeting Maya Stein, the Type Rider

The Ten Forty had some ribbon issues Maya and I could not
figure out until I discovered that the ribbon-color lever
slides to white sometimes. This typer had seen better days
but it's holding out... just 3 more days, baby!

Guess who? Maya took this picture,
I got
it from her updates.

I actually have a video-message from Maya but I couldn't iron-out some technical glitches (I used the vid mode of a still cam); I'm sharing screen captures of her instead. In the video, Maya extends her thanks to the Typosphere for the support we've given her. Before I bid her adieu, I gave Maya a copy of the book The Iron Whim: A Fragmented History of Typewriting as a token gift for her epic 40th birthday. "When I turned forty, I ate cake," I exclaimed. Cheers to you on the last leg of the journey, Type Rider!

How wonderful that you got to meet Maya in person! It sounds like she's had a highly successful "typeride".

@Dana, and what a way!

@Robert, thanks, appreciate your comment!

@Bill, it was a particularly humid day but it was fun meeting Maya in Chicago.

@Cameron, Maya told me that the fruits of the journey has exceeded her expectations.

Cool! I saw her update from Chicago and THOUGHT that might be you in the picture. Godspeed to Maya as she continues to Milwaukee.

Glad you hooked up with Maya - I was wondering if any stateside Typerati would be on her route. I have been enjoying a mini-holiday/road trip experience every day I get the Type Rider update.

@Richard, thanks again for bridging us. I told Maya that you have 260+ typewriters in your corral. ( :
